Quote from Armin van Buuren early 2010: “W&W are truly the rising stars of trance. If I have to put my money on somebody, I put it on W&W.” W&W are among the hottest names in trance and recently rocked the mainstage art Seattle’s massive Resolution NYE party. We followed up with them to see what these guys are all about!
How did you enjoy your performance at Resolution and what would you like to say to the Seattle crowd?
It was our first time playing in Seattle so we didn’t really know what to expect but we have to say it was a great show!! Describe the best moment from your career till now. There hasn’t really been one moment that stood out like that. The entire life we’re living right now is just amazing! We’ve always dreamt of doing this and now it became reality!
Tell us more about your latest release.
Our last release was ‘W&W – Lift Off!’, which we released on our own label ‘Mainstage Music’. Looking at the DJ support and how well it did in the charts it was one of our most successful tracks to date! Coming up next is our collaboration with Ummet Ozcan ‘The Code’. It’s going to be released the 4th of February on Hardwell’s Revealed Recordings. We have a lot of other new stuff, including some very exciting collabs, coming up this year but unfortunately we can’t tell you anything about that yet.
Share a production trick that is native to the W&W sound.
A lot of the effects that we use are made by ourselves. For instance, by reversing reverbs and delays you can get really original sounding effects!
Have you ever felt really disappointed about someone you did business with?
No, and we’re hoping to keep it that way!
Share one track with us which you currently play and describe with detail why it is such a great production.
Showtek ft Justin Prime – Cannonball
Besides the fact that the production quality is outstanding, it is a unique blend of house with hardstyle and some trancy elements!
Which is the brand of headphones you trust? And is there a specific model you really like?
For DJ-ing we use the V-Moda crossfade ones, they’re really good and they look cool! When we produce on the road we use the Sennheiser HD-25 headphones, very clear sound!
If you could advise upcoming producers on monitor speakers, which ones would you recommend?
It’s hard to decide for someone else what kind of monitors he/she should use. We use Genelecs ourselves but there are so many good ones. It’s a personal taste!
Have you ever been arrested and if so, what happened?
Nope, we’ve never been caught.. 😉
What is the most difficult thing to deal with when you are on tour?
Not being in the studio.
What was the highest paying gig from your career and was it actually fun to do?
To be really honest we don’t even know what our highest paid gig was as our agency rarely tells us.. But since we enjoy 99% of our gigs we’re sure we enjoyed that one as well.
Do you like to go out to listen to sets of other DJs?
When we’re at home we don’t go out so much. But when we’re at a party we always stick around or come early to see our colleagues play!
Is there a final thing you would like to say to our readers?
Thanks for the support and hope to see you soon!
